Welcome to Max’s Market where flavorful food and customer friendly service keep our fans coming back for more. Whether you’re craving freshly baked pastries, bacon and eggs, corned beef and pastrami, delicious soups or a salad of your own creation, Max’s Market is the place for you. Catering is also one of our specialties so think Max’s when you plan your next office event.

Dennis Berkowitz describes how he ended up in the food service industry with the Hebrew word "bashert", which means "destiny.” He said, “It was meant to be.”

In1978 Berkowitz opened the first Max’s restaurant, Max’s Son, in Daly City, paying tribute to his father Max. The company gained serious momentum when Dennis opened Max's Opera Café in San Francisco in 1982. The restaurant features singing servers, East Coast style Delicatessen served with flare, and California Bistro food for which Max’s is well known. Max's restaurants continue to provide large portions of high-quality comfort food for reasonable prices.

Max’s Market Café, located in the Bank of America building concourse, continues the legacy of serving the best Corned Beef, Pastrami, and Matzo Ball Soup along with other longtime sandwich, salad, and pastry favorites. A new addition to the menu is Strauss Family yogurt in the design your own parfait bar. The salad bar includes a vast selection of fresh organic produce, including baby kale, arugula, quinoa, fresh roasted balsamic beets, and caramelized carrots alongside other wholesome ingredients. All of our bread, pastries, and desserts are baked fresh daily in our South San Francisco bakery.

Whether it’s the familiar sight of Max’s iconic black and white checkered takeout bags, or the similarly adorned Catering carts delivering to businesses all over the Financial district, it’s a clear sign that Max’s continues to feed so many of our neighbors.

Dennis Berkowitz hopes you enjoy dining with at Max’s as much as he does serving you!
